A New-Look Beidaihe

The Chinese landscape can change with the blink of an eye, or the cast of a line. If you've previously read any of my fishing entries then the following article and pictures will blow you away.
I almost didn't recognise the place!

Believe it or not, the place depicted below is where I used to go fishing, catching nice carp and rudd. This is alos the place where I got to film snakes in the wild that aren't aware of any threat from people.

I decided to take a few students to do some snake-watching. This is what I found...

Between the town and the west, the rive has been widened by 80 metres. I caught my very first fish on this river on this stretch.

And here, between the town and the railway bridge is where I spent most of my tim e 'snake hunting'. It's all been devestated; the hundred or so trees that were here have become either chopsticks or toothpicks and I have no idea where all the snakes have gone. However..

This 'new-look', modernised river area will certainly be a huge benefit to this area of Beidaihe. I'm looking forward to enjoying it.

The biggest problem I have now is trying to find a new fishing spot!
