Let's Get Radical #1

Understanding Chinese radicals is a very important part of learning chinese characters. Radicals give you a huge clue as to the meaning of a character.

A common radical is chuo (4)

It represents 'go' or 'walking'. As you can see from the pictograph, it sort of looks like a foot and leg.

Let's have a look at some characters that you'll come across in daily life that use this radical as a component:

guo(4). This means to pass, go by, exceed.

song(4). This means to see somebody off, deliver, give.

dao(4). This means way, path, say.

jin(4). This means enter, go forward.

yun(4). This means transport。

da(2). This means reach, arrive.

yuan(4). This means far.
