You spend the term often feeling like you're banging your head against a brick wall, driven to drink, hammering points home by using strong language, putting up with idiots, broken hearts, tears and much more.
You even have to deal with being snubbed by those students who failed to make the grade! Just yesterday, I was walking back from the shops, two students were walking towards me, one looked me right in the eye and almost sang her 'hello'. The other was studying ants on the pavement. Guess which one failed?
And then you get the students who really make you feel like everything thing you did was worth while. Those students who ask you if they'll be taught again by you.
I, personally, have no idea who I'll be teaching next term and, when I tell them this, they thank me for everything I have done for them. These students (and I'm happy to say that on my computer course are the majority) are what make the job truly worth doing.
What a great job. Teach in China: It's free of ADD, ODD and every other bloody 'disorder' the west can invent and put in place of good-old discipline.
