No Power in Suihua, China

A very uneventful day yesterday due to the lack of power and I awoke this morning to the riveting Part II. I have a feeling this is going to be a very long day without the power so I am going to buy a ‘phone card, consume some alcohol and make some IDD (International Drunk Dialing) calls.

I’d spoken to Mr. Kevin yesterday about the power-outages. He informed me that during winter it’s typical to have no power from 9 in the morning until 7 in the evening. (more…)

Still No Internet!

For reasons of safety and sanity it has proven wise to save any typed work every 30 seconds or so; the power is so unpredictable. I think we had 11 black-outs yesterday and we’re in the middle of the first of today’s as I type.

Things Go Slowly in China

Who needs a feckin’ alarm clock when you can have a hoard of people come marching into your apartment just after 8 o’clock? There I am in my birthday suit lying in bed with half-a-dozen people stood around discussing my electrics! They eventually left so I dived out of bed and donned some clothes. China – The First Week Living Here I

What great beer! Okay, so I didn’t have a skin-full of the stuff and as anyone who knows me will be aware, I don’t suffer from hangovers, but I woke this morning about five-something and I felt like I’d just walked away from 3 months at the Betty Ford clinic. I couldn’t even taste it in my mouth but then with all the highly spiced food and raw garlic, that was hardly surprising.

China – My First Impression

It’s nine something and I’ve got inspectors and workmen coming in and out of the room like ants. I’m still wearing the scent of a London bag-lady and full of shit!

Work is going on but nothing seems to be happening.
Svetlana, a young Russian lady appeared at the door to invite me for coffee in her apartment. Never one to look a gift-horse in the mouth I left the workmen to it and vanished. (more…)
